Your mistake Matthew is in treating this as anything other than than and thereby enabling such narcissism.
It is verging on if not actually mental illness and should be treated as such an as one would treat a toddler. Calm then down, give them a time out and only once they have shown that they can engage as reasonable adults as used to seem to happen in academic discussion and debate, enter into discussions. And yes this includes the head of DEI Barry McGuire with his narcissism masquerading as compassion, respect and attentiveness to well-being in his "requesting an informal resolution to the problematic expression of my opinion."
Do not give way to such coercion which ironically is a form of bullying. The expression of your opinion as stated here is not "problematic" it is legitimate and your right. As is your right to be treated equally and with dignity. The allegation of it being "problematic" is clear and obvious hypocrisy. Do not cave into this. Stand your ground and insist on your right to form your own opinion and have freedom of expression just as much as you have asserted the rights of those who disagree with you. Treat the ideology as you would do a religious cult that is trying to establish blasphemy laws. Thankfully we got rid of those in this country a while ago - clearly they are emerging their ugly head again.
Then perhaps you will find that you will have done your part for education in pushing back the oppressive and pernicious forces of indoctrination.
Hello Matthew, in experiences like this one a wise teacher asked me to review my contribution and asked me - ‘did you speak into their listening?’ At times I did not and I began to recognise the parts of me that were out of kilter. When I was in my centre I found that I deployed more skilful means to present my viewpoints. Having said that I do find there is often not a lot of listening going on. So I have my ‘guards out’ around when and where to tussle with people. Much appreciation to you and as always I so love your passion, intellect and wisdom xxxx

No doubt I could have done a better job expressing myself - which will probably always be the case. I wish there was more listening going on too!
I think this is the right place to tussle, it seems like the dignity and respect policy is there to provide some with cover for misdeeds and to punish others and dissuade people from talking about and thinking critically about certain ideas that are in association with the protected characteristics.
I will be publishing my response to the request to commit myself to that policy where i think I have done a far better job of expressing myself than in the initial email.
I listened to the whole 2hrs & think u were absolutely spot on!! I continually email about unjust policies etc & am forever being ‘pulled up’ for it n would never change haha!! So many turn a blind eye or don’t even give a monkeys n so we defo need more ‘soul’ shakers like us around!!
